Work in Progress reaches out to the younger generations in Greenland and to new communities. The books are potential carriers of new, collective history writing that can encompass memories from the colonial era as well as longings and wishes for the future in Greenland.
Work in Progress focuses on the issue of who has written our history in the past – and who does so today. In 2020, a number of books served as the focus of workshops carried out with ninth and tenth grade students at three schools in Greenland. The young people would first listen to David Kristoffersen’s story told in the art project Displaced and then use the books to write down their own stories and thoughts about the future. In a subsequent project rooted in the local area, the books were shown as part of the exhibition Displaced at Nanortalik Museum in South Greenland and projected onto the façade of the University of Greenland in Nuuk under the collective title Space for Memory.

Space for Memory was created in collaboration with the research project Art and Social Communities, at Ilisimatusarfik / University of Greenland and Siunissaq. The latter scheme carries out collaborative projects in smaller towns and villages in Greenland together with Ilisimatusarfik / University of Greenland while focusing on creating sustainable social communities.

Workshops conducted in collaboration with Nanortallip Atuarfia / Nanortalik School and Atuarfik Kilaaseeraq / Maniitsoq School and with the management, teachers and students at Ilisimatusarfik / University of Greenland.
